Cheddar Cauliflower Recipe
Description
Cheddar Cauliflower Recipe prepares cauliflower florets roasted in olive oil and a blend of sweet paprika, onion powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Baking at a high temperature allows the cauliflower to brown evenly and develop a roasted flavor. Once browned, the florets are gathered centrally on the baking sheet and sprinkled with grated cheddar cheese, which melts creating a rich, creamy layer atop the slightly crisp cauliflower.
The spices provide a balanced seasoning that complements the natural sweetness and texture of the cauliflower. The melted cheddar cheese adds a savory, creamy element that contrasts nicely with the roasted vegetables. Serving the dish with fresh sliced green onions adds a mild sharpness and a fresh color contrast.
This recipe highlights how simple spices and cheese can elevate cauliflower into a flavorful side dish. The instructions allow the cauliflower to remain tender yet with some firm texture from roasting. Using sharp cheddar, particularly a high-quality or Irish cheddar, offers a pronounced cheesy flavor that pairs well with the spices and roasted vegetable base.
Ingredients
- 2 lb cauliflower florets
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup cheddar cheese see notes, grated
- green onion to serve, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the cauliflower florets on the baking sheet, drizzle with the oil, and then sprinkle with the paprika, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to toss the cauliflower until all the pieces are coated with the oil and spices.
- Spread the cauliflower around the baking sheet and then bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the cauliflower is nicely browned.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and push all the cauliflower to the center. Sprinkle with the cheese and then return the baking sheet to the oven. Let the cheese melt for about 5 minutes then remove the cauliflower from the oven and sprinkle some sliced green onions over the top.
Notes
- Use sharp cheddar cheese for a more pronounced cheese flavor; Irish cheddar is preferred if available.
