Cheesy Garlic Bread in Air Fryer (Plus Oven)
Description
This recipe uses softened unsalted butter blended with olive oil, minced garlic, chopped chives, Italian herb blend, dried parsley, optional red chili flakes, and salt to make a flavorful garlic butter spread. French bread is cut lengthwise and divided into quarters for easy handling. The garlic butter is spread generously over the bread, then mozzarella cheese is sprinkled evenly on top, followed by extra chives and herbs for freshness.
The bread can be cooked in a preheated air fryer at 200°C (400°F) for 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden, or baked in an oven at the same temperature for 8 minutes and then broiled 2 minutes to brown the cheese. The result is a crisp-edged, cheesy top with a soft crumb beneath.
It serves well as a warm appetizer or side dish with Italian or comfort meals.
Using salted butter allows skipping added salt. Fresh parsley can substitute for chives if preferred.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread
- 100 g butter softened, unsalted
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 5-6 garlic minced, cloves
- 3-4 tablespoon chives diced
- 1 teaspoon italian herb blend dried
- 1 teaspoon parsley dried
- ½ teaspoon red chili flakes optional
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
Instructions
- In a bowl add the butter, olive oil, chives, garlic, dried Italian herbs, dried parsley, red chili flakes and salt. Combine everything well with a fork.
- Slice the French bread in the middle lengthwise. Cut each slice further into two pieces so you have four quarters.
- With a butter knife spread the garlic butter generously on top of each slice of bread.
- Top with shredded Mozzarella cheese evenly and sprinkle some diced chives and Italian herbs.
For Air Frying:
- In a pre-heated air fryer put the bread in one layer. Cook at 200 °C (400 °F) for 3-4 minutes till the cheese is all melted and golden.
For Baking:
- In a pre-heated oven put the bread on a baking tray. Bake at 200 °C (400 °F) for 8 minutes and then broil for 2 minutes until the cheese is golden on top.
- Slice and serve hot!
Notes
- If using salted butter, omit the added salt in the recipe for balance.
- Fresh parsley may be used instead of chives depending on availability and preference.
