Chess Pie

Chess pie is a decadent gooey, buttery custard-filled pie with a crispy top and pastry crust- the perfect easy Southern dessert!

Ingredients

Servings
  • one recipe pie crust blind baked
  • ½ cup butter softened, salted
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450 °F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the butter, sugar and vanilla together. Mix in the eggs, then the cornmeal, whipping and vinegar until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared pie plate. Place the pie plate on a baking sheet.
  4. Place in the oven and immediately turn the temperature down to 350 °F. Bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is browned and the pie is set.
  5. Let cool completely then cut and serve topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
