Chewy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Description
The cookie base is created by creaming shortening with brown sugar, then adding egg, vanilla, and milk for moisture and richness. Quick oats and flour with baking soda, salt, and cinnamon contribute to the chewy texture and flavor depth. Chocolate chips stirred in add sweetness and melty pockets of chocolate throughout the cookie. The dough is dropped by rounded tablespoons onto baking sheets and baked for 10 to 12 minutes, forming cookies with a moist center and slight crispness at the edges.
The addition of cinnamon adds subtle spice, balancing the sweetness. Optional mix-ins like raisins, coconut, M&Ms, peanut butter cups, or butterscotch chips allow customization for different tastes. These cookies bake evenly and maintain softness when properly cooled.
These cookies suit snack or dessert needs and are simple enough for everyday baking. Pairing with milk or tea can complement their flavors.
