Chicken A La King
Description
Chicken A La King features diced cooked chicken in a velvety sauce created by sautéing onions and mushrooms in butter, then thickening with flour and enriching with chicken broth and milk. Frozen peas and chopped pimentos incorporate sweet and vibrant elements, while seasoning balances the savory profile. The mixture is cooked until bubbly and garnished with parsley for freshness. This dish is versatile for serving over rice, pasta, or toast, adding variety to the meal presentation and texture.
The sauce’s creamy consistency complements the tender chicken pieces, yielding a cohesive and warming dish. The cooking method ensures the flour thickens the sauce evenly, with stirring to avoid lumps, resulting in a smooth and rich texture.
This recipe works well for family dinners and can be prepared ahead. Its leftovers freeze well, with guidance to cool completely before freezing in airtight containers, making it practical for meal planning. The dish reheats nicely and holds for several days when refrigerated properly.
