Chicken Chow Mein
Description
This Chicken Chow Mein recipe starts with sautéing bite-sized chicken breast or tenderloin pieces in sesame oil until browned and cooked through. In the same pan, chopped cabbage, shredded carrots, and minced garlic are quickly cooked until just tender. These are combined back with the chicken along with chow mein noodles and a prepared sauce consisting of water or broth, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, cornstarch, and optional red pepper flakes or sriracha.
The sauce thickens in the pan, coating the ingredients evenly and adding rich umami and slight sweetness. The final addition of chopped green onions contributes a fresh bite. The dish offers a balance of tender chicken, fresh vegetables, and crunchy noodles wrapped in a flavorful, glossy stir-fry sauce.
For noodle preparation, follow packaged instructions if using uncooked chow mein noodles. Oyster sauce may be substituted with hoisin or soy sauce if needed. Additional vegetables like broccoli or bell peppers can be added for variety, and the heat level can be adjusted by increasing red pepper flakes or sriracha to taste.
