Chicken Chow Mein with the Best Chow Mein Sauce
Description
Chicken Chow Mein with the Best Chow Mein Sauce features bite-sized chicken breast cooked until golden and combined with julienned carrots and cabbage sautéed with garlic. The chow mein noodles are prepared separately to preserve their chewiness and then combined with the chicken and vegetables. A sauce made from oyster sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, chicken broth, cornstarch, and sugar binds the ingredients, giving a glossy and rich coating to the dish. The quick stir-fry method cooks the components evenly while preserving some crunch in the vegetables.
The finished chow mein presents a harmonious blend of textures and mild umami flavors from oyster sauce and soy. It can be served immediately while hot, garnished with chopped green onions to add fresh aroma and a slight bite. This recipe is ideal for those who enjoy classic chow mein with simple, straightforward ingredients and a sauce that is carefully balanced between salty and sweet.
For convenience, using cooked chow mein noodles weighing about 1 lb ensures the right noodle-to-other-ingredients ratio. Prepare the sauce in advance to streamline cooking, and serve straight from the pan for best texture retention.
