Chicken Tikka Skewers
Description
Chicken Tikka Skewers feature chicken breast pieces marinated in a yogurt-based blend with a mix of traditional tikka spices including paprika, cumin, and garam masala. The marinade imparts a mild heat balanced by citrus and creamy yogurt, tenderizing the meat. Along with red onion and yellow bell pepper chunks threaded alternately, the skewers are baked and grilled to develop browned, slightly crisp edges while maintaining juicy chicken. The cooking method allows for even cooking and a complex spice profile.
These skewers serve well alongside a fresh salad, cooling raita, and sweet mango chutney, creating a complementary array of textures and flavors from spicy and tangy to creamy and sweet. They make for a flavorful appetizer or a main dish when paired smartly.
For best results, marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes or up to several hours to deepen flavor. Using soaked wooden skewers prevents burning in the oven. Cutting chicken pieces evenly ensures uniform cooking while allowing space between pieces helps them cook evenly without steaming. Adjust chili powder to suit spice preference.
