Chimichurri Recipe

Chimichurri is a fresh, tangy sauce made by combining minced fresh parsley and optional oregano with minced garlic, olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Its bright herbal and acidic flavors complement grilled meats and vegetables and add a zesty note to many dishes.

Description

This chimichurri blend uses fresh flat-leaf parsley as the base herb, minced finely for a vibrant texture. Garlic adds pungency, balanced by the acidity of red wine vinegar and the smoothness of olive oil, creating a bright and oily sauce. Red pepper flakes contribute moderate heat, which can be adjusted or replaced with fresh minced jalapeno or serrano peppers for different spice levels. Salt and black pepper season the mixture to taste.

The preparation is simple, requiring just whisking the ingredients together. It can be used immediately or chilled briefly. The sauce is typically served at room temperature to allow the flavors to meld fully. Chimichurri pairs well with grilled steak, chicken, or roasted vegetables as a finishing sauce or marinade.

Because of its fresh ingredients, chimichurri is best used within a day when refrigerated, offering a punch of herbaceous, tangy, and spicy notes that enhance a wide range of dishes.
