Chinese Black Pepper Beef
Description
Chinese Black Pepper Beef is prepared by marinating beef strips in a mixture of soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, sugar, Shaoxing wine, and cornstarch, which tenderizes the meat and builds a flavorful base. After coating with a little vegetable oil, the beef is stir-fried briefly until it changes color but remains tender. Aromatic garlic is sautéed, followed by green peppers and red onion cooked just until softened to preserve their slight crunch. The beef is returned to the pan, and freshly ground black pepper is added for a distinctive spicy note. The quick cooking preserves the beef’s juiciness and the vegetables’ crispness, resulting in a balanced texture and bright flavor.
This dish pairs naturally with steamed rice or noodles, which soak up the savory sauce and peppery juices. It makes a straightforward dinner option that highlights usable ingredients common in many households.
