Chipotle Lime Carne Asada Tacos
Description
This recipe starts by marinating skirt steak in a mixture of fresh lime juice, ground chipotle pepper, cumin, garlic, cilantro, and sea salt. The acidity of the lime helps tenderize the meat while the chipotle adds a smoky heat. After marinating for at least 30 minutes, the steak is grilled over medium-high heat, giving it a slightly charred crust and juicy interior. Resting the steak before slicing ensures the juices distribute evenly, keeping the slices tender.
The carne asada is thinly sliced against the grain to maximize tenderness and placed in warm corn tortillas. The recipe suggests optional toppings like diced onion, chopped cilantro, sliced radish, and avocado, which add texture and fresh flavors that complement the smoky beef. These tacos deliver a balance of citrus, spice, and savory meat in a traditional preparation.
For convenience, flank steak can substitute skirt steak if necessary. If grilling is not an option, the steak can be cooked in a skillet or grill pan on the stove following the same method. The marination time can be extended up to 8 hours for deeper flavor penetration. The recipe omits optional toppings from nutritional info, so those add additional ingredients and texture.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs skirt steak

- ½ tbsp salt sea salt
- ½ tbsp cumin ground
- 1 tbsp chipotle pepper ground

Notes
- If skirt steak is unavailable, flank steak makes a suitable substitute.
- Marinate the steak for at least 30 minutes, or up to 8 hours for more flavor.
- Cooking indoors? Use a cast iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat instead of a grill.
- Nutritional info excludes optional toppings, which can be added for extra texture and flavor.
