Chocolate Brownies
Description
The Chocolate Brownies recipe combines oil, sugar, eggs, cocoa powder, salt, and flour to produce a classic chocolate baked good with a moist but firm texture. Baking at 350°F for about 30 minutes results in a set center with soft edges. The cocoa powder lends a bittersweet chocolate flavor, and the vanilla extract adds aroma and depth. After cooling, these brownies can be topped with a chocolate frosting made from creamed butter, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to provide a smooth, rich topping.
This recipe yields a large batch suitable for slicing into multiple servings, making it practical for gatherings or dessert portions over several days. The optional frosting adds sweetness and a luscious texture that contrasts the fudgier brownie base.
Variations in the fat used—choosing all oil, all butter, or a mix—can subtly change the crumb and moisture, with butter tending to create a more cake-like brownie. These brownies also freeze well up to three months if stored correctly after baking and cooling.
Ingredients
Brownies:

- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large egg
- 6 Tablespoons cocoa powder unsweetened

Chocolate Frosting (optional):
- 1/2 cup butter , room temperature

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5-6 Tablespoons milk (or half and half, or cream)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Mix sugar and oil in a mixing bowl.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each egg is added. Add vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients: cocoa powder, salt, flour, and stir until combined.
- Bake: Pour batter into a greased 9x13'' baking pan and spread into an even layer. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely before frosting.
Chocolate Frosting:
- Cream the butter until light and fluffy. Add cocoa powder and salt and mix until well combined.
- Add vanilla. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, mixing well until you reach your desired frosting consistency. Spread frosting over cooled brownies.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Butter can replace oil for a more cake-like brownie texture.
- Brownies can be made 1-2 days ahead and kept covered in the fridge for freshness.
- Freeze baked and cooled brownies up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator or at room temperature.
