Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars use a combination of all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt blended into a moist dough with vegetable oil, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla. A mixture of milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips is folded into the batter, producing a baked pan of lightly golden, chewy bars with chocolate throughout and extra chips on top for texture and richness. This format offers the classic chocolate chip cookie flavors in an easy-to-slice, shareable bar form.

Description

This Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars recipe yields a soft yet gently crisp bar filled with a mix of chocolate chips. The wet ingredients combine oils and sugars to create a tender texture that contrasts slightly with the chewy chocolate morsels. Baking at 350ºF ensures an evenly baked surface that achieves a light golden brown color without overcooking, preserving moisture inside the bars.

The dough is pressed firmly into a parchment-lined 9x13-inch pan so the bars hold their shape once baked and cooled. Sprinkling additional chocolate chips on top adds visual appeal and bursts of melted chocolate in each bite. The bars serve well as a dessert or snack and can be cut into bars to easily serve multiple people.

Variations in chip types are possible, including white chocolate or mint, allowing a customizable flavor profile. Avoid overbaking to preserve a chewy texture rather than a dry, crumbly one. Cooling fully before cutting ensures clean slices.

Substitute chocolate chip varieties to customize flavor, such as white chocolate or mint chips.Do not overbake to retain chewiness; bake until bars are just light golden brown.Nutrition information is approximate and varies with ingredient brands.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil or other neutral oil of choice
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chocolate chips I like a mix of milk and semi-sweet

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or spray with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the oil, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Mix together well. Add the eggs and mix them in. Stir in the vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until combined. Stir in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan. You’ll probably need to press it down evenly with your hands. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until light golden brown, about 18-22 minutes. Do not over bake.
  7. Let the bars cool before cutting into bars and serving.
