Chocolate Chip Dessert Pizza

Chocolate Chip Dessert Pizza combines a hand-kneaded yeast dough crust with a creamy sweetened cream cheese spread, topped with mini chocolate chips and a buttery streusel. The crust has a tender chew with slightly crisp edges from baking at high heat. The cream cheese "sauce" adds a smooth, sweet base that contrasts with the bits of chocolate for a textural balance. The streusel finish gives a crisp, crumbly topping, making it a richer dessert twist on traditional pizza dough. It's a neat recipe for those wanting to serve a shareable, sweet treat with the textures of baked dough, creamy topping, and crumbly sugar.

Description

Chocolate Chip Dessert Pizza features a yeast-leavened crust made from a simple mix of flour, instant yeast, salt, and warm water. The dough is kneaded until elastic, rested briefly, then rolled out and shaped into a circle with a formed edge to hold toppings. The "sauce" is an easy mixture of softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla that is spread over the crust before baking. Mini chocolate chips are sprinkled across this layer to ensure bursts of chocolate flavor.

After baking, a streusel made of melted butter, vanilla, flour, and sugars is sprinkled on top to add sweetness and a crumbly texture. The pizza is baked at a high temperature to develop a golden crust that remains chewy inside. The creamy and sweet topping paired with the baked dough and crumbly streusel creates a layered taste experience with soft, creamy, crunchy, and chocolaty elements.

This dessert pizza can be sliced like a savory pizza, making it easy for sharing or serving at gatherings. Because it can be stored and eaten warm or cold, it offers flexibility for dessert options beyond typical cakes or bars.

Stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days, it maintains its flavors well. Warming leftovers can refresh the creamy texture while preserving the streusel's crunch.

Ingredients

Servings

Crust

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon instant yeast
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cup water warm

“Sauce”

  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips

Streusel

  • 3 Tablespoons butter melted
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cup + 1 Tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • cup sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar tightly packed

Instructions

Crust

  1. Preheat oven to 500F (260C) and line a pizza pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, and salt and stir well.
  3. Add water and stir until ingredients are mostly combined. Use your hands to continue to combine until the dough is cohesive enough to form a ball.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes (until elastic). If needed, add additional flour 1 Tablespoon at a time if dough is too sticky and sticks stubbornly to your hands.
  5. Allow dough to rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Roll dough out into a 12” circle and transfer to prepared pizza pan. Pinch edges or gently fold over to form a crust.

Toppings

  1. Prepare your cream cheese “sauce” by cutting your cream cheese into 8 pieces and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 10 second intervals, stirring between each, until cream cheese is easy to stir.
  2. Add sugar and vanilla extract, stir well.
  3. Spread cream cheese “sauce” evenly over pizza dough.
  4. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly overtop and press/spread into the “sauce”. Prepare your streusel.

Streusel

  1. Add vanilla extract to melted butter, stir, and set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, use a fork to mix together flour and sugars.
  3. Add butter mixture and use a fork to combine until mixture resembles coarse crumbles.
  4. Sprinkle evenly over pizza
  5. Bake pizza in 500F (260C) oven for 7 minutes or until streusel turns a golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven, allow to cool for several minutes, then slice and serve.
