Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie Recipe

The Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie is a large, soft cookie baked in a cast iron skillet, featuring a tender crumb packed with semi-sweet chocolate chips. The dough combines brown and granulated sugars with butter and eggs for a balanced sweetness and texture. Baking at a moderate temperature results in browned edges with a lightly golden top, creating a contrast of textures that pairs well with optional ice cream or chocolate syrup toppings.

Description

This Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie recipe uses a mixture of softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar beaten together to create a light, fluffy dough enriched with eggs and vanilla extract. The addition of cornstarch and baking soda in the flour mix helps create a tender but chewy texture, while a generous amount of semi-sweet chocolate chips adds pockets of melted chocolate throughout.

The dough is spread evenly in a greased 10-inch cast iron skillet and baked at 325°F. Cooking for about 35 minutes develops browned edges and a slightly golden surface while maintaining a soft center. Cooling for several minutes allows it to set slightly before serving.

Serving suggestions include topping the warm cookie with vanilla ice cream and drizzling chocolate syrup for added richness. This dessert portion size is suitable for sharing or individual indulgence.

Notes suggest the flexibility to bake in other oven-safe dishes or ramekins, adjusting baking time accordingly, and offer reheating options such as air frying or microwaving to restore freshness when enjoying leftovers.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 2 egg large
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ¾ cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
  • Ice cream optional
  • chocolate syrup optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Lightly grease oven-safe skillet. I used a 10'' cast iron skillet.
  3. In a large bowl or stand mixer beat butter for 1 minute on medium speedy until butter is smooth and creamy. Add granulated and brown sugar. Beat on medium high speed until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla on high speed until completely combined, scraping sides of bowl down if needed.
  4. In a separate, medium sized bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch and baking soda until combined. Slowly mix into wet ingredients until combined.
  5. Add chocolate chips and stir until evenly distributed.
  6. Spread cookie dough into prepared skillet. Baked for 35 minutes or until browned on the edges and light browned on top.
  7. Cool cookie for 5-10 minutes and serve. You can top with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup if desired.

Notes

  • You can bake the cookie dough in an 8-9 inch round pan or pie plate, extending baking time slightly as needed.
  • Individual servings can be made by baking in ramekins.
  • Store leftover cookie in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days, or refrigerate if it has ice cream or whipped cream toppings.
  • Reheat leftovers using an air fryer at 300°F for 2-3 minutes, or microwave for 15 seconds to regain warmth.
