Chocolate Covered Orange

Chocolate Covered Orange slices feature peeled or sliced oranges dipped into melted dark chocolate and coconut oil, then chilled until the coating hardens. Optionally sprinkled with sea salt, this treat balances bright citrus with rich chocolate and smooth texture.

Description

This recipe prepares Chocolate Covered Orange by first washing and slicing oranges into rounds or wedges, optionally removing the peel before dipping. Dark chocolate chips and coconut oil are melted together carefully in short microwave bursts with stirring to ensure smoothness without burning.

Orange pieces are dipped fully or partially into the melted chocolate and arranged on parchment paper. A light sprinkle of sea salt can enhance the flavor contrast. The coated slices chill in the refrigerator until the chocolate firms to a glossy finish, making them easy to handle and eat.

This treat blends the fresh, tangy taste of orange with the bitterness and sweetness of dark chocolate, offering a refreshing and indulgent combination. Leftover melted chocolate can be used to coat other fruits. The chocolate covered oranges keep in the fridge for up to four days but should not be frozen to protect texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 orange
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • dash salt optional, sea salt

Instructions

  1. First, wash and dry oranges. Slice into 8 equally sized pieces, either ¼ inch rounds or wedges.
  2. In a microwave safe bowl, add dark chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave in 30 second increments, stopping and stirring between each increment, until smooth and creamy.
  3. Line a pan with parchment paper.
  4. Dip each orange slice into melted chocolate either fully or halfway. Place on lined pan. Repeat for remaining orange pieces.
  5. Sprinkle with sea salt if desired. Place pan in fridge for 15 minutes or until chocolate coating has hardened.
  6. Finally, serve!

Notes

  • Slice oranges as preferred; rounds are visually appealing, but peel is not eaten if left on.
  • Melt chocolate carefully in 30-second intervals, stirring between, to prevent burning.
  • The recipe yields more melted chocolate than needed; use leftovers to coat other fruits.
  • Dip oranges fully or partially depending on preference for chocolate coverage.
  • Store coated slices refrigerated up to 4 days; freezing is not recommended.
