Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods
Description
Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods feature pretzel sticks dipped in melted chocolate, which hardens to create a crisp coating contrasting with the salty crunch of the pretzel. The recipe uses a gentle melting method placing jars of chocolate in a crock pot filled partway with hot water, allowing slow, even melting. Stirring keeps the chocolate smooth.
Once melted, the chocolate is kept warm on low heat. Dipping the pretzels and quickly adding toppings like sprinkles, mini M&Ms, coconut, toffee bits, or nuts before the chocolate sets allows for a variety of textures and flavors. The dipped rods are laid on parchment to cool and harden.
This sweet-salty treat works well for seasonal celebrations or casual snacking and is customizable based on the choice of chocolate and toppings. It offers a hand-held convenience without complicated preparation.
An alternate tip mentions speeding melting by using a double boiler or microwave bursts before maintaining warmth in the crock pot, balancing convenience and quality melting.
Ingredients
- 16 ounces pretzel rods
- 16 ounces milk chocolate or candy melts, chopped, semisweet, dark or white chocolate
- Sprinkles chopped for nuts
- mini m&m's
- coconut
- Toffee bits
- nuts
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate by filling clean, tall heat safe jars with chopped chocolate or candy melts. Set them into the crock pot and carefully fill the crock pot with hot water until it's about halfway up the sides of the jars, being careful not to get any water into the jars with the chocolate at any time.
- Set the crock pot temperature to high and let the chocolate sit for about 30 minutes without covering. Use a long handled spoon to stir the chocolate as it melts.
- Once the chocolate is melted, turn the temperature on the crock pot down to low or warm.
- Dip pretzel rods into the melted chocolate, shaking off any excess chocolate before transferring them to a parchment lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with whatever toppings you desire before the chocolate has a chance to set, then let the chocolate fully harden before storing in an airtight container.
Notes
- You can melt chocolate faster by using a double boiler or microwaving in short bursts, then keep it warm in the crock pot while working.
