Chocolate Covered Pretzels
Description
Chocolate Covered Pretzels include two types of pretzels—mini twists and pretzel rods—coated evenly with melted candy coating, such as Ghirardelli or Candiquik. The coating is melted in the microwave in intervals to achieve smoothness, then each pretzel is dipped individually and excess chocolate is shaken off to avoid thick clumps. Sprinkles are added immediately while the chocolate is still wet to stick properly. The coating sets naturally at room temperature, preserving the chocolate's texture.
The combination of crunchy pretzels and sweet chocolate creates pleasing contrasts in texture and flavor, with the sprinkles adding a festive touch. These treats work well as snacks, dessert table additions, or gifts during holidays and celebrations.
Notes advise against freezing these pretzels, as freezing can affect their texture and freshness. It is best to store them at room temperature. Variations in toppings, like crushed nuts or peppermint, can be used instead of sprinkles.
Ingredients
- 25 mini pretzels twists and/or 25 rods
- 25 pretzel rods twists and/or 25 rods
- 16 oz candy coating Ghirardelli or Candiquik
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Line up a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper. This ensures pretzels dipped in chocolate do not stick as they dry. And it’s easier to remove dipped pretzels without breaking them.
- Melt in separate bowls of white and dark candy melts in the microwave for 30-second intervals. Stir every time you remove chocolate from the microwave to help melt evenly and smooth.
- Dip pretzels one at a time. Remove dipped pretzels from the chocolate using a fork. Shake off excess coating and then place it on a tray lined with parchment paper.
- For dipping pretzel rods (or sticks), use a microwave-safe tall glass and to melt chocolate. Dip the pretzel rod halfway into the melted chocolate.
- Shake off excess chocolate and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle the topping over dipped pretzels immediately. Sprinkles will stick to pretzels while it’s wet. You want to work faster here.
- Allow the chocolate coating to set at room temperature. You can even place it in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.
- Pack it for gifting in cute boxes or gift bags or store it in air-tight containers. It will last for a little more than 2 weeks.
Notes
- Use candy melts for a smooth coating that melts evenly in the microwave.
- Line the baking sheet with parchment or wax paper to prevent sticking and ease removal.
- Add sprinkles only while the chocolate is still wet so they adhere properly.
- Avoid freezing chocolate-covered pretzels to maintain their texture; store at room temperature.
- Substitute toppings with crushed nuts or peppermint candies for variety.
