Chocolate Covered Pretzels

These Chocolate Covered Pretzels combine the salty crunch of mini pretzels with a smooth coating of melted chocolate. The recipe allows using milk, semisweet, or dark chocolate, and includes an option to drizzle with white chocolate or sprinkle toppings like toffee bits or crushed nuts for added texture. Chocolate is melted gently using a double boiler method to ensure smooth coverage. Once dipped, pretzels are set to harden before serving or storing.

Description

Chocolate Covered Pretzels feature mini pretzels coated entirely in melted chocolate, giving a balance of sweet and salty flavors with a crunchy texture beneath a glossy chocolate shell. The process uses quality chocolate melted over simmering water to achieve a creamy consistency, with a reserved amount stirred back in to maintain sheen and prevent streaks. Optional white chocolate drizzle or decorative toppings can be added while the coating is still wet to enhance the look and texture.

These treats can be arranged on a cooling rack or wax paper to set, becoming a convenient finger food or snack. They can be stored at room temperature, refrigerated, or even frozen, making them adaptable for gifting or multiple occasions. Using chocolate bars rather than chips is recommended to avoid thick melting clumps. For dipping pretzel rods, a tall glass makes the process easier.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 5 cups pretzels mini size
  • 12 oz milk chocolate or semisweet or dark chocolate bars, finely chopped, divided
  • white chocolate sprinkles, toffee bits, or crushed nuts are other great additions!, for drizzling, optional

Instructions

  1. Fill a small saucepan with 1-2 inches of water and find a medium-sized heatproof bowl that fits over the saucepan without touching the water. (Alternatively, use a double boiler).
  2. Remove the bowl from your saucepan and add chocolate, reserving approximately 2 Tablespoons for adding later.
  3. Bring the water to a simmer over medium heat. Once simmering, place bowl of chocolate over the saucepan.
  4. Stir constantly until chocolate is melted. Once smooth, remove the bowl from the heat and add the reserved chocolate. Stir until all chocolate is melted and smooth. (this helps to keep your chocolate from becoming streaky).
  5. Dip pretzels into chocolate, completely covering, and then transfer to a cooling rack or wax paper lined baking sheet (space pretzels so they’re not touching).
  6. Optional - drizzle with melted white chocolate or sprinkle with sprinkles, toffee bits, crushed nuts, etc. while chocolate is still wet.
  7. Allow chocolate to harden completely before serving. You can speed up the process by placing the pretzels in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Use quality chocolate bars like Lindt or Ghirardelli instead of chips for better melting and coating texture.
  • For pretzel rods, dip in a tall glass filled with melted chocolate to cover evenly.
  • Store chocolate covered pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, refrigerate for up to 3 months, or freeze for several months.
