Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Chocolate Covered Strawberries feature fresh, ripe strawberries dipped in melted dark or white chocolate and optionally decorated with sprinkles, sugar crystals, or miniature chocolate chips. The contrast between juicy berries and smooth, hardened chocolate coating creates a soft yet crisp texture combination. Their appearance and flavor make them a classic treat for celebrations or as an elegant dessert.

Description

This recipe starts with selecting large, firm, and sweet strawberries with stems intact to facilitate dipping. The berries are thoroughly washed and dried to ensure the chocolate coating adheres properly. Dark and white chocolates are melted carefully using a microwave or double boiler until smooth and fluid, avoiding overheating to prevent clumping.

Each dried strawberry is dipped fully into the melted chocolate, with excess chocolate scraped off before placing the berry on a lined baking sheet to set. Decorations such as sprinkles, sugar crystals, mini chocolate chips, or vermicelli can be applied while the chocolate is wet. For drizzle decorations, allow the initial coating to set before drizzling with melted chocolate.

When set, the chocolate forms a firm shell surrounding the juicy fruit inside, offering a balance of textures and sweet flavors. The recipe advises using premium quality melting chocolate and highlights drying as essential for successful coating adhesion.

Chocolate covered strawberries pair well as a gift, party dessert, or romantic treat. Nutritional details vary by chocolate type and toppings used.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 strawberries
  • 6 ounce dark chocolate melting/baking chocolates, each
  • 6 ounce white chocolate melting/baking chocolates, each

For Toppings:

  • Sprinkles
  • sugar crystals for sprinkling
  • mini chocolate chips
  • Chocolate vermicelli

Instructions

  1. Use best quality firm, ripe and sweet strawberries for the recipe. It’s better to choose large sized strawberries. Leave the green stem on it. It’s easier to work by holding the stem while dipping into melted chocolate.
  2. Do not skip washing strawberries first. Strawberries usually have debris on it and it needs to be washed. Place all fresh firm strawberries in a bowl of room temperature water.
  3. Rinse it well. Remove strawberries from water and dry it on paper towel. You need to ensure all the strawberries are completely dry, including the green stem on it. Using another paper towel, pat dry strawberries on all sides.
  4. Using microwave or double boiler melt chocolate until smooth and runny. Use small and wide open bowl to easily dip the berries. Do not over heat chocolate, it will clump.
  5. Dip completely dry strawberries in melted chocolate. Scrap off excess chocolate at the tip of the bowl.
  6. If serving it plain, leave the strawberries to set on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. If adding toppings, while chocolate coating is still wet coat it with crushed nuts, sprinkles. To add chocolate drizzle decoration, allow the chocolate coating to set completely, then drizzle it with melted chocolate and allow it to set.
  8. You can make white chocolate covered strawberries using white melted chocolate.
  9. Best served the same day it’s made.

Notes

  • Choose large, firm, ripe strawberries with stems for easy handling.
  • Wash and completely dry strawberries to ensure chocolate adheres properly.
  • Use high-quality melting chocolate disks or wafers for best dipping results.
  • Melt chocolate slowly and stir well to avoid clumping or overheating.
  • Add a small amount of coconut oil if chocolate is too thick to achieve smooth dipping consistency.
  • Apply toppings like nuts or sprinkles immediately after dipping while chocolate is wet.
  • For decorative chocolate drizzle, wait until the coating sets before drizzling additional chocolate.
  • Coated strawberries should be set on parchment or lined baking sheets to prevent sticking.
