Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Description
This recipe starts with fresh strawberries washed thoroughly and dried completely to ensure the melted chocolate adheres evenly. Chocolate chips are melted gently in 20-second bursts in the microwave with stirring between intervals to reach a smooth, silky consistency. Coconut oil can be added to soften the chocolate if desired.
Each strawberry is held by the leaves and dipped carefully into the melted chocolate, then rotated to coat evenly. Excess chocolate is shaken off before placing the berries on parchment-lined baking sheets to set.
The strawberries can air dry until the coating hardens, or be refrigerated briefly to speed this process. The result is a glossy, firm chocolate coating over the juicy, fresh berry, creating a popular simple dessert or treat. Variations in chocolate type allow customization to preference.
Ingredients
- 16 ounces strawberry fresh
- 10 ounces chocolate chips semi-sweet, milk chocolate and dark chocolate all work
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet that's lined with parchment paper.
- Wash the strawberries to remove any dirt and debris.
- Pat the strawberries dry using a paper towel. The strawberries will need to be completely dry before dipping.
- Add the chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat the mixture in 20 second increments, stirring in between until it's silky smooth. If you'd like to add coconut oil to make the chocolate a little softer (see tip above) you can add it here and stir with the chocolate.
- With each strawberry, pick it up by the leaves and slowly dip it into the chocolate mixture until it almost reaches the top. Rotate the strawberry to make sure all sides are coated. Then, lift the strawberry and gently shake off any excess chocolate.
- Carefully lay the dipped strawberries on the baking sheet, and repeat for each one.
- Let the strawberries sit until they are completely dry or place in the refrigerator for 5 minutes to firm up the chocolate.
Notes
- Make sure strawberries are completely dry before dipping to achieve a smooth chocolate coating.
- Consider adding coconut oil to the chocolate when melting to make it softer and easier to dip.
- Use parchment paper to prevent the dipped strawberries from sticking while the chocolate sets.
