Chocolate Crunch Bars

Chocolate Crunch Bars combine melted chocolate chips with puffed rice or quinoa to create a simple no-bake treat. The mixture is poured into a lined loaf pan, chilled until firm, then sliced into bars that have a smooth chocolate coating with crispy puffed grains inside.

Description

The bars are made by melting chocolate chips gently over simmering water or in short bursts in a microwave, then stirring in puffed rice or puffed quinoa to evenly distribute the grains. This mixture is spread into a parchment-lined loaf pan for easy removal and chilled until the chocolate solidifies.

Once set, the chocolate and puffed rice form a crisp yet tender bar with a satisfying crunch from the puffed grains against the smoothness of the chocolate. The bars are cut into manageable pieces using a warm knife to avoid cracking the chocolate.

Suitable for a quick homemade snack or dessert, these bars can be stored in the refrigerator to maintain firmness or frozen for longer storage.

The notes mention that puffed rice can sometimes be difficult to find without added flavors, and ordering online may be a better option to get plain puffed rice suitable for this recipe. The bars keep up to two weeks refrigerated or three months frozen.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup puffed rice or puffed quinoa

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in the microwave in 20-second increments, melt the chocolate until smooth. Then stir the puffed rice into the melted chocolate.
  2. Line an 8½ x 4½ loaf pan with parchment paper, with enough paper up the sides to lift out. Pour the chocolate mixture into the loaf pan in an even layer. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until set.
  3. Remove the chocolate from the loaf pan and use a warm knife to slice it into bars.

Notes

  • Store finished bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze for up to three months.
  • Choosing plain puffed rice without added sweeteners is best; it may be easier to find suitable puffed rice online.
