Chocolate Dipped Oreos Recipe
Description
Chocolate Dipped Oreos involve coating Oreo cookies with melted white chocolate that can be colored using food coloring or different colored candy melts. The recipe offers two melting methods: a double boiler, which gently melts the chocolate to avoid burning, and a microwave method with short intervals. After melting, the chocolate can be divided and tinted as desired. Oreos are dipped in the chocolate, then decorated with sprinkles before the coating sets. Using high-quality chocolate ensures a smooth finish. Optional oil can be added to thin the chocolate if too thick. The coated Oreos create a crisp chocolate shell around the cookie, perfect for gifting or dessert platters.
Ingredients
- 20 Oreo cookies any flavor
- 10 ounces white chocolate chips (or candy melts different color)
- Food Coloring
- 1 cup Sprinkles of choice
Instructions
Melt the chocolate. (Choose ONE option, whichever you prefer.)
- Option 1: Double boiler method. Fill a small or medium pan with one or two inches of warm water.Bring it to simmer over medium heat, and once water is heated through and steam released add the bowl on top. NOTE: The glass bowl should not get in contact with water. Add in the chocolate chips and stir constantly until about 70% of the chips are melted. Remove from the heat and continue to stir with a spatula until everything has melted and smooth.
- Option 2: Microwave Method. Place the candy melts in a small bowl and microwave for 30 second intervals until the chocolate is melted.
Color The Chocolate
- Divide melted chocolate into two or more bowls if you are going to be using different colors.
- Add desired food coloring to one bowl according to packaging instructions.
- Alternatively, you can use colored candy melts and melt them the same way as described above.
- For a very smooth consistency add a drizzle of coconut or olive oil to the melting chocolate.
Dip the Oreos in Chocolate
- Using two forks, dip each Oreos into the chocolate.
Decorate The Cookies
- Carefully transfer the cookies to a cooling rack or parchment paper.
- Decorate the cookies by adding sprinkles, and/or candies, or drizzle with colored chocolate.
Chill The Cookies
- Let the cookies cool for a couple of minutes and then refrigerate for 30 minutes or until chocolate is set.
Notes
- Adding 1 teaspoon of vegetable or coconut oil can thin thick melted chocolate for smoother coating.
- Colored candy melts or white almond bark can substitute for white chocolate chips and may not require oil to melt smoothly.
- Use clean tweezers to place decorative edible pearls or sprinkles precisely when the chocolate is still wet.
- Sprinkles should be added before the chocolate hardens to ensure they stick well.
- Choosing high-quality chocolate improves melting results and coating texture.
- Store any leftover melted chocolate in an airtight container in the refrigerator and re-melt using the double boiler method as needed.
