Chocolate Orange Cake

Chocolate Orange Cake blends cocoa and orange flavors into a moist layered cake. The batter includes cocoa powder, orange zest, orange juice, orange extract, and buttermilk, producing a tender crumb with citrus brightness. The cake is baked in two or three pans and filled with a creamy chocolate orange frosting that echoes the citrus notes. This dessert offers a rich yet fresh flavor combination suited for celebrations and dessert tables.

Description

The cake batter is made by combining dry ingredients—flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt—then mixing with wet ingredients including oil, eggs, buttermilk, orange zest, orange juice, and orange extract. Hot water is added last to yield a liquid batter, which helps create a moist texture. The batter is divided among greased pans and baked until a tester comes out clean.

The frosting uses softened butter whipped with cocoa powder, powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange extract until light and fluffy, providing a balanced chocolate-citrus flavor that complements the layers. This frosting is spread between cooled cake layers and over the assembled cake, uniting the dessert with a creamy texture and vibrant taste.

Serving this cake brings together dense chocolate richness with lively orange acidity, making a nuanced dessert. The moist crumb and smooth frosting make it enjoyable for those who appreciate citrus-infused chocolate cakes.
