Chocolate Oreo Spider Cake Recipe
Description
The cake base is made from a boxed chocolate cake mix baked in two round pans and cooled. Oreo cookies are crushed separately to add texture on top of the frosting. The frosting consists of softened butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, and vanilla extract, whipped to a spreadable consistency. After frosting the cooled cake, crushed Oreos are sprinkled for texture. Cinnamon candies are placed on the cake to represent spider eyes, while cardstock legs are added before serving to create the spider effect.
This cake offers layers of chocolate flavor with added crunch from Oreos and a creamy frosting. The decorative presentation turns a familiar chocolate cake into a festive centerpiece suitable for themed parties.
Ingredients
- 1 box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients on box
- 6 tbsp butter softened
- 2 2/3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder baking
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream plus extra if needed
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 leeves Oreo cookies
- 3 cinnamon candies
Instructions
- Make cake as directed in box using two 8" or 9" circle pans. Let cool.
- Crush Oreos in a Ziploc bag and set aside.
- Make frosting by combining butter, powdered sugar, cocoa, whipping cream and vanilla. Beat until all combined, add more powdered sugar if you want it thicker or more whipping cream if you want it thinner.
- Frost cake and add crushed Oreos all over the cake (add chocolate jimmies for even more texture).
- Add cinnamon candies to the front for the eyes.
- Place card stock legs in the cake right before serving and enjoy!
