Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge

Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge features two layers: a smooth chocolate base and a creamy peanut butter topping mixed with powdered sugar. Mini peanut butter cups pressed on top add texture. The layers are combined warm to bind firmly, creating rich, dense squares that hold together well when cut.

Description

This fudge recipe creates a two-layer sweet treat starting with a chocolate layer made from semisweet chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter melted together. The chocolate mixture is spread evenly in a prepared pan. The peanut butter layer is made by melting butter and creamy peanut butter with vanilla, then stirring in powdered sugar for sweetness and structure. This mixture is poured over the still-warm chocolate and quickly topped with quartered mini peanut butter cups for added texture.

Combining the two layers while warm ensures they adhere firmly, preventing separation when the fudge is sliced. The fudge is chilled until fully set and firm before serving, resulting in a rich, dense confection with contrasting creamy peanut butter and chocolate flavors, accented by the peanut butter cups on top.

  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • cooking spray

For the peanut butter layer

  • 1 cup butter cut into slices
  • 1 cup peanut butter creamy
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup peanut butter cups quartered, miniature

Instructions

  1. Coat an 9 inch square pan with cooking spray and line the pan with foil, leaving a 2 inch overhang on the sides. Coat the foil with cooking spray.

For the chocolate layer

  1. Place the chocolate chips, butter and sweetened condensed milk in a microwave safe bowl.
  2. Heat for 60 seconds, then stir and heat for an additional 30 seconds or until melted. Stir until smooth.
  3. Use an offset spatula to firmly press the chocolate fudge into an even layer in the bottom of the pan. Immediately prepare the peanut butter layer to put over the warm chocolate layer.

For the peanut butter layer

  1. Place the peanut butter, butter and vanilla in a large microwave safe bowl. Heat in 45 second increments until melted.
  2. Stir until smooth, then gradually add the powdered sugar to the peanut butter mixture while whisking constantly.
  3. Immediately pour the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate layer. Quickly press the peanut butter cups into the top of the peanut butter layer.
  4. Chill until firm, then use the foil to lift the fudge out of the pan and cut into 36 squares.

Notes

  • Combine the chocolate and peanut butter layers while warm to ensure they bond firmly and slice cleanly.
  • Avoid using Nestle Toll House chips for the chocolate layer as they don’t melt properly.
