Chocolate Peanut Butter Nests - No Bake
Description
Chocolate Peanut Butter Nests - No Bake starts with crunchy Chow Mein noodles coated evenly in a melted blend of peanut butter and chocolate chips. This mixture is scooped and shaped into small nests on parchment paper. Candy eggs are nestled into the centers before the nests firm up. The combination of crunchy noodles and creamy chocolate-peanut butter creates a textured treat. Because this recipe requires no baking, it's quick to assemble and the nests can be chilled to speed setting. These nests offer a playful presentation and are often made during egg-themed holidays.
The flavor balances the nuttiness of peanut butter with the sweetness of chocolate, with a crisp contrast from the chow mein noodles. Melting the chocolate and peanut butter together evenly distributes flavor and forms the binding agent to hold the nests. Adding the candy eggs immediately before chilling ensures they stay in place. Storing them in a single layer prevents damage to their delicate shape.
This recipe is well suited for making ahead and storing in the refrigerator. It's a convenient sweet treat for gatherings or a casual snack, especially when festively decorated. Careful melting and mixing techniques yield consistent texture and help nests hold together without crumbling.
Ingredients
- 1 package Chow Mein noodles 170 grams, approximately 3 cups, crispy
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk, or white; or a mix)
- ¾ cup peanut butter (crunchy or smooth)
- 75 Chocolate Candy 75 for 3 eggs per piece; or 50 for 2 eggs per piece, egg shaped (e.g., Mini Eggs, Eggies
Instructions
- Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- Place the chow mein noodles in a large bowl. Set aside.
- In a microwave safe bowl combine the chocolate chips and peanut butter. Melt in 15 second intervals until fully melted. Or in a medium saucepan, combine the white chocolate chips and peanut butter. Stir over medium heat until smooth.
- Pour melted chocolate mix over the chow mein noodles and stir until evenly coated.
- Using two spoons, scoop out a heaping tablespoon of the mixture and place it on the parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Form an indent in the center and immediately place two or three egg candies in the center. Repeat with the rest of the mixture and egg candies.
- Allow the nests to cool on the parchment paper until the chocolate is set. To speed up the process, place bird nests in the freezer for 10 minutes, or fridge for 20 - 30 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Use parchment paper to prevent nests from sticking when chilling.
- Store nests in a single layer in an airtight container to maintain shape and freshness.
- Place wax or parchment paper between layers if stacking nests during storage.
