Description
This dessert starts with a dense crust made from prepared chocolate cake mix combined with eggs and melted butter, baked in a 9x13 pan. After baking, the crust is cooled for an hour to set firmly before the creamy chocolate pudding filling is spread on top. The pudding is prepared by whisking an instant chocolate fudge pudding mix with chocolate milk and allowing it to thicken slightly.
The final layer is a ganache crafted by melting semi-sweet chocolate chips with heavy cream, microwaved and stirred to a thick, syrupy smoothness. This ganache is drizzled over the pudding layer to create a glossy, rich topping. The bars then chill in the refrigerator for at least two hours, allowing layers to firm and flavors to meld.
Once chilled, the bars can be cut and served chilled for a dessert that offers a combination of moist chocolate cake, silky pudding, and decadent chocolate ganache. They can work well as a sweet treat for gatherings or as a make-ahead dessert option.
Ingredients
Ganache
- 12 ounces chocolate chips semi-sweet
- 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
Crust
- 15.25 ounce chocolate cake mix box
- 2 egg large
- 1/2 cup butter melted
Filling
- 2 cups chocolate milk
- 3.4 ounce Instant pudding mix chocolate fudge flavor, package
Instructions
Ganache
- In a microwave-safe bowl, add in the chocolate chips and heavy cream. Microwave for 45 seconds and stir.
- Microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat until the mixture resembles a smooth but thick chocolate syrup. Set aside.
Crust
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease a 9×13-baking pan with nonstick baking spray.
- Add the cake mix, eggs, and melted butter in a large bowl. Using a spatula, stir until well combined.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. It will be thick.
- Place into the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Let the cake crust cool for 1 hour before adding the pudding.
Filling
- Once cooled, add the chocolate milk and pudding mix into a large bowl. Whisk until combined. Set aside for a few minutes to thicken.
- Once the pudding is thickened, spread it evenly over the cooled cake crust.
- Drizzle the chocolate ganache on top of the pudding layer until the pudding is completely covered with the ganache.
- Chill for at least 2 hours.
- Cut into bars and serve.
