Chocolate Pudding Cake with Pudding Mix

This Chocolate Pudding Cake with Pudding Mix blends a cooked chocolate pudding thickened on the stovetop with chocolate cake mix, creating a moist cake with an indulgent chocolate chip topping. The pudding base forms a rich, dense layer beneath the cake batter that bakes into a shiny, slightly pulled-away from the pan surface texture. The semi-sweet chocolate chips add bursts of chocolate flavor and texture variety throughout the baked dessert, ideal for casual serving with whipped cream or ice cream.

Description

This recipe makes a chocolate dessert by cooking chocolate pudding with milk on the stove until thickened, then mixing in chocolate cake mix to form a batter. The batter is poured into a large 9x13-inch pan, topped evenly with semi-sweet chocolate chips, and baked at 350°F for about 20 minutes. The cake is ready when the surface is shiny and starts pulling away from the pan edges.

The resulting cake is rich due to the cooked pudding base, which keeps the cake moist and dense. The chocolate chips add texture and extra bursts of chocolate, contrasting with the smooth pudding-cake combination beneath. Baking in a large pan suits family-sized portions or gatherings.

Serve this cake warm or at room temperature with whipped cream or ice cream to complement the rich chocolate flavors and soft texture. The pudding base sets this apart from typical boxed cake recipes by adding a creamy dimension to the crumb.
