Chocolate Syrup Recipe
Description
The syrup starts by whisking sugar and cocoa powder to eliminate lumps, then cooking with water and butter allows it to thicken as it simmers. Once removed from heat and cooled slightly, vanilla extract is stirred in for aromatic depth. Cooling and refrigeration help the syrup set and develop flavor.
This method delivers a smooth, glossy syrup with balanced chocolate sweetness that can be reheated gently when needed. The butter adds a subtle richness, while vanilla contributes to the complexity.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup water cold
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Whisk together the sugar and cocoa in a medium pot until all lumps are gone.
- Add water and butter and turn to medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly for about 1 minute.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla once the mixture is cooled. Stir until combined, place in a glass jar, and refrigerate. Reheat when ready to serve.
