Christmas Bark

Christmas Bark is a layered treat built on a single sheet of graham crackers topped with melted marshmallows and a smooth layer of semi-sweet chocolate. Festive candies and sprinkles press into the chocolate before chilling create a colorful, crunchy sweet. This bark provides a no-bake dessert option with a crunch from graham crackers, softness from marshmallows, and chocolate richness highlighted by holiday-themed decorations.

Description

This Christmas Bark recipe starts by lining graham crackers flat on a parchment-lined sheet pan. A melted butter-coated marshmallow mixture is spread evenly over the crackers acting as a gooey glue and sweet layer. Then, semi-sweet chocolate is melted and spread on top creating a glossy dark layer. While the chocolate is still melted, colorful holiday candies like M&Ms and peppermints along with festive sprinkles press gently into the surface. The bark is chilled to harden the chocolate, giving a firm but breakable texture.

The combination of crunchy graham cracker base, pillowy sweet marshmallow, and smooth bittersweet chocolate layers make this dessert texturally layered. The Christmas candies add pops of sweetness and visual appeal matching holiday themes. It is easy to slice and share.

Store the bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or refrigerate in warmer climates to prevent melting. When handling the sticky marshmallows, using non-stick spray on hands and utensils prevents tearing the graham cracker base. The recipe can be customized with different candies or doubled to make multiple pans for gifting or parties.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 large graham crackers
  • 40 large marshmallows (or 10.5oz mini marshmallows)
  • ¼ cup butter melted, unsalted
  • 8 oz baker's semi-sweet chocolate broken into small squares
  • Christmas candy M&Ms, peppermints, etc.
  • christmas sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Line a 9.5" X 13" sheet with parchment paper then place the graham crackers in a single layer on the parchment paper. It's okay to trim the graham crackers to make them all fit flat.
  2. Place marshmallows in a large, microwave-safe bowl and pour the melted butter over them. Stir to coat the marshmallows then microwave for 30 seconds, stir. Repeat heating and stirring in 30 second intervals until marshmallows are completely melted.
  3. Spray a spatula with non-stick cooking spray then use it to spread the melted marshmallows evenly over the graham crackers.
  4. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds, until it is melted and smooth.
  5. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the marshmallow layer with a spatula.
  6. While the chocolate is still melted, press candies and sprinkles gently into the melted chocolate.
  7. Place pan in the refrigerator to chill for 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is hard.
  8. Remove the pan from the refrigerator and use a sharp knife that has been coated in non-stick cooking spray to cut the bark into serving size pieces and serve.

Notes

  • Store the bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week; refrigerate if warm to avoid melting chocolate.
  • Use non-stick spray on your spatula and hands to handle sticky melted marshmallows without disturbing the graham cracker layer.
  • Try customizing the bark by using different candies or festive sprinkles to suit other holidays or preferences.
  • Double the recipe to fill multiple sheet pans using larger bowls for melting marshmallows and chocolate.
