Christmas Breakfast Quiche
Description
This Christmas Breakfast Quiche starts with a deep-dish pie shell that is prebaked briefly to prevent sogginess. Ground breakfast sausage is browned and drained, then mixed with dried cranberries, which add sweetness and texture. Shredded Monterey Jack cheese forms the base layer in the pie shell before the sausage and cranberries are added. A custard made by whisking eggs with half-and-half is poured over the filling. The quiche is baked at a reduced temperature until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean, signaling that the egg is fully set but still moist.
The resulting quiche offers a custardy texture with a crispy pie crust, along with layers of savory sausage punctuated by bursts of sweet cranberries and melted cheese. It is suitable for serving at Christmas morning gatherings or special occasions, providing a make-ahead festive option.
Preparation steps like browning the sausage, whisking the eggs and half-and-half, and grating the cheese can be done in advance and refrigerated to shorten assembly and cooking time on the day of serving.
