Christmas Rice Krispie Treats
Description
These Christmas Rice Krispie Treats start by gently melting butter and mini marshmallows together until smooth, then incorporating half and half for added richness. Folded into this mixture are crisped rice cereal, festive M&M candies, and a blend of Christmas-colored sprinkles and sugar, which add bursts of color and sweetness. The mixture is pressed evenly into a square baking dish and chilled until firm.
The finished bars have a chewy, airy texture from the cereal and marshmallows, punctuated by the candy's crunch and the sweet contrast of the sprinkles. Cutting into squares creates a neat, bite-sized treat that preserves the festive theme visually and in flavor. These treats are suitable for holiday gatherings, bake sales, or family snacks during the season.
For easier handling, placing parchment paper or plastic wrap atop the mixture before pressing can prevent sticking. Storing in an airtight container at room temperature preserves freshness for a few days, and individual wrapping can help maintain moistness and portability.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter unsalted
- 10 oz mini marshmallows approximately 6 cups
- 1 tablespoon half and half milk can also be used
- 6 cups crisped rice cereal
- 1 1/2 cups M&M candies
- 3 tablespoons Sprinkles Christmas colored
- 1 tablespoon sprinkle sugar red and green
Instructions
- Melt butter on low heat in large pot or dutch oven. Add marshmallows, stirring often, until smooth and melted. Mix in half and half and remove from heat.
- Add in cereal, candies, sprinkles, and sugar and mix until mixture comes together. Press mixture evenly into an 8x8 or 9x9 inch baking dish.
- Add more sprinkles and sugar to top if desired. Allow to cool completely, then cut into squares with sharp knife.
Notes
- Use a 9x13 inch pan for larger, traditional-sized treats if desired.
- To avoid sticking, cover the cereal mixture with parchment, waxed paper, or plastic wrap before pressing it into the pan.
- Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days for optimal texture and flavor.
- Individually wrapping treats in plastic wrap helps keep them fresh and portable.
