Christmas Tree Brownies
Description
Christmas Tree Brownies start with a standard boxed brownie mix prepared and baked in a square pan, then cooled to room temperature. Once cooled, the brownies are cut into triangles by first making even rows and then cutting diagonally to form tree shapes. Candy canes or pretzel sticks are inserted at the base of each triangle to serve as trunks. A green vanilla icing, made by mixing vanilla icing with green food coloring, is piped over the brownie trees and decorated with festive sprinkles and star-shaped candies. This creative decorating transforms simple brownies into visually appealing holiday treats. The process involves standard baking and cooling but adds a hands-on decoration step that fits seasonal celebrations well.
These brownies can be served at holiday parties or family gatherings as a festive dessert or snack. The combination of chewy brownie texture with the sweet, creamy icing and crunchy candy decorations provides a mix of textures and flavors that emphasize the Christmas theme.
Ingredients
- 1 box brownie mix (prepared and cooled to room temperature)
- ½ container vanilla icing
- green food coloring
- Sprinkles holiday colored
- Sprinkles star shaped or candy
- candy canes (or pretzel sticks)
Instructions
- Line a square 9″ x 9″ (or 8″ x 8″) baking pan with parchment paper, or just grease the pan. Prepare the brownie mix according to the package directions and bake as directed. Cool brownies at room temperature until fully cooled (about 1 hour)
- Carefully lift the parchment paper from the pan to remove the brownies from the pan. Or use a knife/spatula to loosen the edges from the pan and then flip the pan over to remove the brownie slab in one piece.
- Cut the brownies triangles. First cut 3 even size rows. Then cut each row in alternating diagonals to create triangles. You will get 4 triangles from each row.
- Insert candy canes (rounded cane piece broken off) or pretzel sticks into the base of the tree to create the tree trunk.
- In a small bowl combine the vanilla icing with 2-3 drops of green food coloring. Mix until evenly combined (add more food coloring until you reach your desired green color).
- Add the green icing into a piping bag, or Ziploc bag with a small piece of the corner cut off.
- Starting at the top of each tree, gently squeeze the icing in a zigzag as you go down the tree.
- Add sprinkles to decorate and a start sprinkle or candy to top the tree. Enjoy!
