Cider Poached Pears
Description
In this recipe, green Anjou pears are peeled and halved, with cores removed but stems left intact for presentation. The pears simmer gently in apple cider infused with ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves until tender, about 20-25 minutes. Flipping the pears halfway ensures even cooking and flavor absorption.
The process softens the pears to a delicate texture that still holds its form. The spiced cider infuses warmth and seasonal spice notes, creating a sweet yet lightly spiced dessert. Serving the pears warm with some of the poaching liquid highlights the aromatic, fruity sauce surrounding the fruit.
This dessert offers a light, elegant way to use fresh pears and cider, suitable for autumnal or winter menus. The spiced poaching liquid can also serve as a sauce for other desserts or breakfasts.
Check fruit ripeness when selecting pears; ripe but firm pears yield the best texture. Nutrition values are estimates.
