Cinnamon Apple Yogurt Bowls
Description
Cinnamon Apple Yogurt Bowls combine gently stewed diced apples with golden raisins and warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, creating a soft, flavorful topping for plain yogurt. The fruit is simmered in a small amount of water with sugar until it becomes tender and releases natural sweetness. When spooned over creamy fat-free yogurt and finished with crunchy nuts, the dish offers a range of textures from soft fruit to creamy yogurt and crisp nuts.
The balance of tart yogurt with sweet, spiced apples fits well as a morning breakfast or light snack. The use of raw sugar and spices enhances the taste without overpowering the freshness of the apples. The walnuts or pecans add a nutty contrast and some healthy fats for better satiety.
This recipe is best served immediately after topping the yogurt with the cooled apple mixture and nuts, preserving the contrast between warm fruit and chilled yogurt. The simmered apple topping can be made ahead and refrigerated separately, then added just before serving for convenience and freshness.
