Cinnamon Sugar Cookies

Cinnamon Sugar Cookies are soft cookies made by creaming butter and sugar, then adding eggs and combining with flour, cream of tartar, cinnamon, and salt. After chilling the dough, it is rolled into balls coated in cinnamon sugar and baked until lightly golden with a crackled surface. The cookies have a gentle cinnamon flavor with a tender texture.

Description

The recipe begins by beating softened butter and sugar until fluffy, then incorporating eggs for smoothness. Dry ingredients including flour, cream of tartar for a tender crumb, cinnamon for spice, and salt are mixed in last to form the dough. Chilling the dough for one to two hours firms it, making it easier to handle and helping maintain shape during baking.

Once chilled, small dough balls are rolled in cinnamon sugar for a crunchy, sweet coating before being spaced on lined baking sheets. Baking at 375°F for about 10 minutes yields cookies that are soft inside with a lightly crisped exterior. A final sprinkle of cinnamon sugar when hot enhances the flavor and texture.

After cooling on the pan and then a wire rack, the cookies are ready to enjoy as a snack or dessert with subtle warm spice and buttery richness.
