Classic Blackberry Crumble
Description
This recipe begins by placing a greased cast iron skillet in a hot oven to preheat, ensuring even baking and a crisp crust. Blackberries are tossed with sugar, cornstarch, and water to create a thickened filling that thickens during baking. The filling is poured into the greased skillet. A topping is made from quick-cooking oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cold butter that is cut in until crumbly. The topping is sprinkled evenly over the berries before baking at 375°F until the filling is bubbly and the topping turns golden brown. Cooling briefly before serving allows the filling to set slightly. Vanilla ice cream is an optional accompaniment that compliments the warm fruit and crumb.
