Colorful Jello Poke Cake: Easy Customizable Dessert for Any Occasion
Description
The Colorful Jello Poke Cake begins with two baked 9-inch white cake layers. Each layer is pierced evenly with a fork to create holes for the gelatin to seep into. Two different flavors and colors of gelatin (Jell-O) are dissolved in boiling water, then carefully poured separately over each cake layer. Chilling the layers for three hours allows the gelatin to set within the cake holes, infusing them with bright colors and fruity flavor. After gelatin setting, one layer is unmolded, spread with a whipped topping, and then topped with the second gelatin-soaked cake layer. The cake is then frosted with the remaining whipped topping and garnished as desired before chilling an additional hour.
The gelatin colors contrast well with the white cake to create an eye-catching dessert that balances soft cake texture with moist, slightly firm gelatin pockets. This customizable approach allows for flavor and color variations to suit any occasion.
For a strong visual effect, choosing dark or vivid gelatin colors such as cherry, grape, or berry blue is recommended. Allowing the gelatin to cool slightly before pouring prevents it from soaking too deeply and preserves the cake texture.
Ingredients
- 2 baked White Cake 9-inch layers
- 2 cups water boiling
- 2 packages gelatin dessert colors/flavors of choice, Jell-O
- 12 ounces Cool Whip
Instructions
- Place cake layers top side up in two 9-inch round cake pans. Pierce cake layers with a large fork at 1/2 inch increments.
- Stir 1 cup boiling water into each flavor of the gelatin in separate bowls for 2 minutes or until dissolved.
- Carefully pour 1 gelatin over 1 cake layer and the other gelatin over the second cake layer.
- Refrigerate for 3 hours.
- Dip 1 pan in warm water for 10 seconds; unmold onto a serving plate.
- Spread with 1 cup of whipped topping.
- Unmold the second layer and carefully place it on top of the first layer.
- Frost with remaining whipped topping.
- Garnish as desired.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
Notes
- Use contrasting Jello colors to enhance visual appeal against the white cake layers.
- Cool the dissolved gelatin for about 5 minutes before pouring to prevent excessive soaking into the cake.
