Copycat Chick-fil-A Cookie Recipe

This Copycat Chick-fil-A Cookie recipe blends rolled oats, various chocolate chips and chunks, and a combination of butter and shortening for a cookie with a tender yet slightly chewy texture. Honey and brown sugar add depth to the sweetness, and the oats provide a hearty bite. These cookies bake to a golden color and yield about 20 servings, approximating the popular Chick-fil-A style cookie.

Description

Copycat Chick-fil-A Cookies are made with all-purpose flour combined with quick oats for texture, and a blend of dark brown and granulated sugars for sweetness and moisture. The fat comes from both vegetable shortening and salted butter, adding a balanced richness alongside honey for a gentle sweetness. Vanilla and eggs bind the ingredients together. The cookie dough is studded with semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips and a portion of chocolate chunks for varied chocolate intensity.

Baked at a moderate temperature on parchment-lined sheets, the cookies develop slightly crispy edges and a soft center with evenly distributed chocolate. The oats give a chewy body, making the cookies satisfying and not overly sweet or cakey. The honey and molasses notes from the brown sugar complement the chocolate for a well-rounded flavor.

Treats from this recipe can be served as snacks or desserts and stored for short periods. Scaling the ingredients will yield about 20 medium-sized cookies.

Measuring flour by spooning lightly into cups rather than packing ensures proper dough consistency. A kitchen scale provides accuracy in ingredient amounts.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 325 grams
  • 3/4 cup quick oats (60 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder 5 grams
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 3 grams
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 gram
  • 1 1/3 cups dark brown sugar 263 grams
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar 69 grams
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening 4 ounces
  • 1/2 cup butter room temperature, 4 ounces, salted
  • 3 tablespoons honey 63 grams
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 10 grams
  • 2 large egg room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips, semi-sweet
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º Fahrenheit. Line baking sheets with non-stick baking mats or parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda and salt. 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup quick oats, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt
  3. In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream the sugars, shortening, butter, honey and vanilla. This mixture will be grainy, but the butter should be evenly mixed. 1 1/3 cups dark brown sugar, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup vegetable shortening, 1/2 cup salted butter, 3 tablespoons honey, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  4. Add the eggs and mix well. 2 large eggs
  5. Add in the dry ingredients and mix until combined, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  6. Mix in all of the semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips, then half of the chocolate chunks. 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips, 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks
  7. Scoop out the cookie dough with a 2" cookie scoop. I like to make each cookie dough ball about 70 grams (1/4 cup) each which makes a nice size cookie like the restaurant has. Place the dough balls 3" apart on the prepared sheets. Press a few of the last 1/2 cup of chocolate chunks into the top of the dough balls.
  8. Bake for 11-13 minutes or until the cookies are set. If the cookies are smaller than 70 grams each, you'll bake them for less time. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 3 minutes, then move to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Measure flour by lightly spooning into cups and leveling off to avoid dense dough.
  • The recipe yields about 20 cookies; one cookie is considered one serving.
  • Using a kitchen scale can improve accuracy for ingredient measurements and consistent results.
