Cowboy Spaghetti
Description
This pasta dish starts by crisping bacon and using the rendered fat to cook ground beef with onions and garlic. The addition of Worcestershire and Tabasco sauces adds depth and mild heat. Chopped cured meats including pastrami and pepperoni join the skillet along with jalapeños, mushrooms, and olives to build multiple savory layers.
After the meats and vegetables develop flavor, beef broth and fire-roasted tomatoes are added to simmer and meld the sauce. Combining this hearty sauce with cooked spaghetti noodles and topping it with shredded sharp cheddar and green onions creates a substantial and filling dish with a balance of smoky, spicy, and tangy tastes.
This dish can be served family-style with cheese melted on top and is suitable for casual dinners where a robust, multi-meat pasta is desired. The recipe notes an option to slow cook the sauce in a crockpot for enhanced flavor and convenience.
Ingredients
- 1 pound spaghetti noodles
- 6 lices Bacon chopped
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 3 garlic minced, cloves
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 2 teaspoons Tabasco sauce
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 pound pastrami roughly chopped, deli
- 1/3 cup pepperoni chopped
- 2 Tablespoons jalapeño
- 1/2 cup mushroom sliced
- 1 can olive diced
- ½ cup beef broth
- 14 ounces diced tomatoes fire roasted
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- cheddar cheese shredded, sharp
- green onions chopped
Instructions
- Heat a large deep skillet to medium-high heat. Add bacon and fry until crisp, remove with a slotted spoon, and drain on paper towels.
- In the same skillet add ground beef. When beef is browned stir in onions and garlic. Season with salt, pepper, Tabasco, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Stir in bacon, pastrami, pepperoni, jalapeno, mushrooms, and olives. Cook, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes.
- Add beef broth and cook for an additional 5 minutes or so. Stir in tomatoes and tomato sauce. Cover and reduce heat to low (at this point you can also throw everything in a crock pot and cook on low heat for a few hours. If it gets too thick, add another can of fire-roasted tomatoes and a little more beef broth).
- Prepare spaghetti noodles according to package directions. Drain noodles well, add to meat sauce, and toss it all together (or you can serve with the sauce over the top). Top with sharp cheddar cheese and green onions.
