Cranberry Cobbler Smash
Description
This cocktail recipe includes preparing a cinnamon simple syrup by dissolving brown sugar with water, cinnamon stick, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Once cooled, the syrup combines with tart cranberry juice and bourbon, creating a balance of sweet, spicy, and alcoholic flavors. The mixture is served over crushed ice and topped with carbonated seltzer water, lightening the drink and adding fizz.
Garnishes of cinnamon sticks and sugared cranberries enhance the drink’s aroma and festiveness. The cinnamon syrup provides warmth and spice typically associated with fall or winter flavors, while the cranberry juice contributes refreshing tartness. The bourbon adds a sturdy base spirit to hold the ingredients together.
This cocktail suits seasonal celebrations or those preferring a cocktail with spiced, fruity notes. The simple syrup can be prepared ahead of time and stored refrigerated for convenience.
Ingredients
cinnamon simple syrup
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- pinch ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
cobbler smash
- ice crushed for your glass
- 1 to 2 ounces simple syrup cinnamon flavored
- 3 to 4 ounces cranberry juice (I use 100% juice with no added sugar)
- 1 to 2 ounces bourbon
- 1 to 2 ounces seltzer water (p.s. orange is good with this!)
- cinnamon sticks for garnish
- cranberries sugared, for garnish or in your glass
Instructions
cinnamon simple syrup
- Heat the sugar, water, cinnamon stick and cinnamon in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a simmer and then turn off the heat. Let it cool completely then stir in the vanilla extract. You can make this a day or two ahead of time and store it in the fridge!

- To make the drink, fill a glass with crushed ice. Stir together the syrup, cranberry and bourbon. Or, you can shake the syrup, cranberry and bourbon in a shaker for 30 seconds or so. Pour it over the ice. Top the drink the seltzer and garnish with a cinnamon stick and cranberries if you wish.
