Cranberry Sauce
Description
Fresh cranberries cook down with sugar, orange juice, and water until the berries burst, releasing their natural tartness and thickening the sauce. The addition of grated orange zest and vanilla adds aromatic complexity, while small pinches of cinnamon and nutmeg bring a touch of warm spice. The sauce is boiled for about ten minutes to fully combine and thicken, then chilled to allow flavors to meld.
This cranberry sauce offers a bright, slightly tart profile with layered citrus and spice undertones. Its texture is smooth with some whole cranberries and softened skins, providing a pleasing balance. It complements rich foods such as turkey or pork and can also be enjoyed as a spread or topping.
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The sauce can be made ahead and cooled to develop flavor further before serving.
