Crinkle Cookies

Crinkle Cookies blend cocoa powder into a rich, chocolate dough loaded with mini chocolate chips. After chilling, the dough is rolled in powdered sugar and baked, creating cookies with crisp, crackled tops and a soft, tender center. This recipe requires chilling for development of flavor and texture and produces a batch of sweet, fudgy cookies with a distinctive cracked sugar crust.

Description

These Crinkle Cookies start with butter and a combination of granulated and brown sugars creamed until fluffy. Eggs and vanilla extract are mixed in before folding dry ingredients—flour, natural cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt—into the batter. Mini chocolate chips add bursts of chocolate throughout. After refrigerating the dough to firm it, cookies are shaped into balls, coated thoroughly in powdered sugar, and baked until the tops crackle and the centers remain soft.

The baking process results in cookies that have a slightly crisp exterior and moist, tender interiors with rich cocoa flavor punctuated by chocolate chips. The powdered sugar coating provides the signature crinkled appearance and a touch of sweetness. These cookies are best enjoyed after cooling fully to set the texture.

Store Crinkle Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days, though high humidity can cause the powdered sugar coating to melt. Chilling the dough ahead enhances the flavor and helps maintain the shape of the cookies during baking.
