Crispy Air Fryer Fries

Crispy Air Fryer Fries deliver golden, crunchy potatoes with less oil thanks to air frying technology. Russet potatoes are sliced, soaked to remove excess starch, then seasoned with olive oil, salt, and pepper before cooking in a single layer to ensure even crisping. The fries emerge tender inside and crisp outside, and resting them in a warm oven keeps batches hot while cooking multiple servings.

Description

This recipe for Crispy Air Fryer Fries uses large russet potatoes, sliced to desired thickness. Soaking the cut fries in cold water for an hour removes excess starch, which helps them crisp up during cooking. After drying thoroughly, they are tossed in olive oil, salt, and pepper.

The fries are arranged in a single layer in the air fryer basket, cooked at 375°F for 15 to 20 minutes until golden and crispy. After cooking, the fries can be kept warm on a rack over paper towels in a low-temp oven which helps maintain their crispness while finishing other batches.

This method yields fries with a balance of crunchy exterior and soft interior, suitable as a side dish or snack without deep frying.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 russet potatoes large
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt to taste, sea salt
  • black pepper to taste, sea salt

Instructions

  1. Using a mandoline or sharp knife, slice the potatoes into fries. I don't worry too much about the size of fry I am making- some are bigger, and some are smaller. That's fine!
  2. Next, place your spuds in a nice cool water bath. Completely submerge the fries in water.
  3. Let fries sit one hour. This helps to remove excess starch and will help the fries crisp up more in the oven.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 375 degrees.
  5. After an hour, drain the water, and pat fries dry with a paper towel.
  6. Toss with a couple tablespoons of olive oil, salt and pepper.
  7. Add fries to bottom of air fryer basket, making sure they are all on the same level (don't stack them on top of each other.)
  8. Cook 15-20 minutes, until crispy and golden brown.
  9. Place on a baking sheet lined with paper towels and a cooling rack over it.
  10. Place in warm oven (set to the minimum temperature, not over 250 degrees) and let rest while other batches of fries are cooking.
  11. Serve hot and enjoy.
