Crispy Onion Chicken

Crispy Onion Chicken features boneless, skinless chicken breasts coated in honey mustard and pressed into French fried onions before baking. The result is a chicken dish with a crunchy, flavorful onion crust and a moist interior. Baked on a cooling rack over foil to allow even crisping, this recipe delivers a textured contrast and savory taste, suitable for straightforward dinner preparation.

Description

This recipe prepares chicken breasts by patting them dry then coating them in honey mustard, which helps the fried onion coating stick. The chicken is then pressed on both sides into a layer of French fried onions which form the crispy crust. Placing the coated chicken on a foil-lined baking sheet fitted with a sprayed cooling rack allows heat circulation, promoting an even crisp exterior during baking.

Baking at 375°F for 30-35 minutes cooks the chicken through while crisping the onion coating without burning. The onions add a savory crunch that complements the tender baked chicken inside, making for a contrast in texture and flavor that highlights the simple combination of ingredients.

The dish can be served as a main course alongside vegetables or a grain, offering a satisfying meal with minimal preparation steps and pantry-friendly ingredients.
