Crispy Teriyaki Tofu
Description
The Crispy Teriyaki Tofu recipe uses firm tofu dried and cut into cubes, coated thoroughly with sweet potato starch, which crisps up nicely when pan-fried in vegetable oil over medium-low heat. The tofu pieces are cooked until golden brown on each side, ensuring a crunchy crust without burning. The homemade teriyaki sauce adds a balanced sweet and savory glaze, complemented by the freshness of chopped green onion sprinkled on top.
This tofu dish provides a textured combination of crispiness and tenderness. The sweet potato starch sets it apart from starches like cornstarch as it forms a crisper coating. It can be served as a protein component alongside rice or vegetables or enjoyed as a snack. Using a non-stick pan helps prevent sticking during cooking.
To improve crispiness, pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture is key. The homemade teriyaki sauce enhances the flavor profile without overpowering the tofu. The recipe’s simplicity and resulting textures make it a versatile preparation suitable for varied meals.
