Crock Pot Ground Turkey Lasagna Recipe
Description
The Crock Pot Ground Turkey Lasagna Recipe features browned ground turkey sautéed with diced onions, garlic, canned diced and crushed tomatoes, and Italian seasoning. This sauce is layered in a crock pot with uncooked lasagna noodles and a cheese mixture of ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
Slow cooking in the crock pot allows the noodles to soften in the sauce as the cheeses melt, creating a cohesive lasagna without baking in the oven. The savory turkey combined with the herbaceous tomato sauce and melted cheeses creates a comforting dish.
This setup offers convenience for a hands-off cooking approach, making it easier to prepare lasagna without boiling noodles separately or using an oven. Leftover portions can be refrigerated and reheated within five days.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 onion (finely diced)
- 1 can diced tomatoes 14.5 oz, petite
- 2 cans crushed tomatoes (15 oz each)
- 1 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 oz lasagna noodles (uncooked)
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup Parmesan Cheese
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Then add in the ground turkey and diced onions. Sauté until the onions are soft and the turkey is browned.
- Then add in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minutes until the garlic is aromatic. Then add in the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, Italian Seasoning, salt and pepper. Stir and cook for 7-8 minutes until heated through and well combined. Then remove the pan from the heat.
- In a separate bowl, stir together the ricotta cheese, 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese and Parmesan Cheese.
- Spray a 6 quart crock pot with non-stick cooking spray. Then pour a layer of sauce on the bottom of the crock pot (approximately 1-1 1/2 cups). Then place a layer of the lasagna noodles on top. It’s ok to break some of the noodles to cover the top of the sauce. Then layer approximately 1/3 of the cheese mixture on top followed by approximately 1 cup of the ground turkey sauce.
- Repeat these layers 2 more times making sure to end with the meat sauce. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of the mozzarella cheese on top.
- Cover and cook the lasagna on low for 4-5 hours until the noodles are soft.
- Then turn the crock pot off and let the lasagna rest for 20-30 minutes before serving. Then. The lasagna is ready to serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Store leftover lasagna in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within five days.
