Crock pot Monkey Bread

Report
Crock pot Monkey Bread uses canned buttermilk biscuits coated in cinnamon sugar and layered with a butter and brown sugar mixture. The slow cooking in a crock pot results in a soft, gooey center with browned edges, delivering a pull-apart bread great for breakfast or dessert. The layering technique ensures even caramelization and sweet flavor throughout. It’s convenient to prepare ahead and slow cook while you attend to other tasks.

Description

The Crock pot Monkey Bread recipe starts with cut-up buttermilk biscuits tossed in a cinnamon and granulated sugar mixture, providing the classic sweet and spiced coating. Brown sugar melted with butter creates a rich, sticky syrup that is poured over the biscuit pieces in a slow cooker, layering the flavors for an evenly caramelized finish. Cooking on high for a couple of hours softens the biscuits into a gooey, tender pull-apart bread, with some caramelized edges adding texture contrast. Allowing the bread to rest after cooking lets the syrup stabilize.

This bread can be served warm for breakfast, brunch, or dessert. Its gooey sweetness pairs well with coffee or tea, making it a comforting treat. The slow cooker method offers convenience by hands-off cooking.

Because each crock pot heats differently, monitor the bread every 45-50 minutes, adjusting cooking time accordingly to avoid burning or undercooking. Leftovers keep well at room temperature in an airtight container for a few days; briefly reheating restores the bread’s warm, gooey texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 can buttermilk biscuits 10 count each
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter

Instructions

  1. Spray a 6 quart crock pot with a non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Cut the biscuits in 4 pieces each.  Then place the biscuit pieces in a large zip lock bag.  Add the sugar and cinnamon to the bag.  Do not remove the air from the bag.  Seal the bag and shake the bag to coat the biscuits with the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  3. Add the butter and brown sugar to a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave for 1 minute and then whisk the mixture together until well combined.
  4. Then add half of the biscuits to the slow cooker and then pour half of the butter mixture over the biscuit pieces.
  5. Top with the remaining biscuits and remaining butter mixture.
  6. Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours until cooked through.  The edges of the monkey bread will start to brown but the center will still look slightly gooey.  Turn the crock pot off and let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  7. Then serve while warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Check the monkey bread every 45-50 minutes during cooking as crock pot temperatures vary.
  • Store leftovers at room temperature in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
  • Reheat leftovers for 15-20 seconds to regain warmth and gooey texture.
