Crock Pot Pizza

Crock Pot Pizza uses rolled pizza dough pressed to fit a slow cooker, layered with cooked Italian pork sausage, marinara sauce, shredded Italian blend cheese, and pepperoni slices. The dough extends beyond toppings to create a crust edge. Covered loosely with parchment and a paper towel to avoid moisture, it cooks slowly in the crockpot producing a soft, cheesy pizza with a tender crust.

Description

This Crock Pot Pizza begins by rolling out pizza dough on parchment to an oval shape slightly larger than the slow cooker to allow for edges to rise over the toppings. Cooked Italian pork sausage with minced garlic is spread over a sauce-covered crust, topped with shredded cheese and pepperoni. The dough edges are stretched to wrap up the toppings creating a pronounced crust rim.

To manage moisture during slow cooking, the pizza is covered with a paper towel under the crockpot lid. The pizza cooks on high for 2 to 3 hours or low for 4 to 5 hours until the crust is cooked through and the cheese melted and bubbly. The result is a soft, richly topped pizza suitable for a hands-off cooking method.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound pizza dough or frozen pizza dough, thawed, fresh
  • 1 TBSP flour
  • ½ pound Italian pork sausage cooked
  • 1 garlic minced, clove
  • 1 ½ cups marinara sauce
  • 1 ½ cups italian blend cheese shredded
  • 8-12 lices pepperoni
  • Parmesan Cheese optional, chopped
  • parsley optional, chopped

Instructions

  1. Scatter flour on a large piece of parchment paper making sure to get a little on each side of the dough. Roll the pizza dough out on the paper in an oval shape. Make sure to roll and stretch the dough 2-inches longer and 2-inches wider than the crockpot. Use the edges of the paper to lower the crust into the crock.
  2. Cook the pork sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking into small pieces with a wooden spoon. Add minced garlic the last few minutes of cooking.
  3. Spread sauce over the bottom of the pizza crust. Then cover with cheese. Lift and stretch the sides of the dough so it extends past the cheese. Sprinkle the crumbled sausage over the cheese and then add the pepperoni (if using). Lift and stretch the sides of the crust again so it is above the edge of the toppings.
  4. To catch excess moisture, cover the crockpot with a long piece of paper towel. Place the lid over the paper towel and pull it tight.
  5. Cook the pizza for 2-3 hours on HIGH, or 4-5 hours on LOW When ready to serve, lift the pizza out of the crock by the edges of the parchment paper and sprinkle the top with parmesan cheese and parsley. Cut into 8 slices. Enjoy!
